Texas A&M University

Paulien & Associates, Inc. was contracted by Texas A&M University to provide a number of space analyses as part of the campus master plan.  These included perspective on whether research universities normally have more space than non-research universities.  Three states were selected to benchmark with Texas to see if a clear pattern of differences between the research universities and the non-research universities could be observed.

Paulien & Associates collected facilities data from 15 benchmark institutions to compare square foot per student information and square foot per full time faculty member information campuswide and then by specific schools and colleges at the benchmarked institutions to Texas A&M University.  The consultant analyzed how peer institution needs are measured by the governing or coordinating structure at a statewide level.  A key goal in this analysis was to see whether the current efficiency measures at Texas A&M were severe or lenient and whether additional efficiencies should be achieved as the campus grows.

Paulien & Associates reviewed the Texas A&M University classroom and teaching laboratory utilization analysis and proposing a number of other measurements.  These include the percentage of classrooms and teaching laboratories scheduled each hour of each day, the weekly hours of use, the percent of seats filled in the classrooms and teaching laboratories when classes are scheduled.

Paulien & Associates provided Texas A&M University with a space needs analysis for each of the 10 Texas A&M University academic schools and colleges.  They are the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, College of Architecture, College of Education, Dwight Look College of Engineering, College of Geosciences, College of Liberal Arts, College of Science, College of Veterinary Medicine, George Bush School of Government and Public Service, and the Mays Business School.  The analysis evaluated the impact of instruction, research and public service in quantifying the needs of the individual colleges and schools.
